Check a real estate agent's licence.
Anyone who sells, leases or manages property for others in Australia needs a licence from their state or territory. Here is the official register for each one. Checking is free.
What to check
- The name on the register matches the agent, or the agency's trading or company name.
- The licence is current: not expired, suspended or cancelled.
- The licence type covers the work, such as sales or property management, and read any conditions.
- For an agency, also check the licensee in charge, and the ABN on ABN Lookup (below).

Australian Business Register
Shows whether an ABN is active, the legal entity name and its registered business names.
Before an agency gets a verified badge, our team checks its licence, its licensee in charge and its ABN against these registers. Registers change every day, so check the official register yourself before you sign anything.
